Armistice day - Field of poppies

I hope you’ll join me today in remembering the members of our Armed Forces on Armistice Day.

I’ve had a lot of contact with members of the armed force, both socially and through work roles I’ve held in the past, and I’ve got nothing but respect for those that are willing to risk their lives for the protection of others. Something I wish I had the strength of character to do myself.

On this day that is known for remembering those that did not return home, I hope you will also take the time to remember those that did return but came home injured either physically or mentally. Serving in the armed forces can expose you to dangers both physical and psychological and often the families and loved ones of our servicemen and women pay as high a price as those that serve.

If you haven’t had a chance to buy a Poppy yet this year there are two wonderful charities that I have a great deal of respect for that you can donate to online.

The Royal British Legion – Under the motto “Put on a poppy”, their 90th Poppy Appeal highlights the need to support the Afghan generation of Armed Forces wounded and bereaved – now and for the rest of their lives.

Erskine – Founded in 1916, Erskine has provided nursing and medical care for former members of our Armed Forces through two world wars and the more recent conflicts and peace keeping initiatives of the twentieth and twenty first centuries. Re-building shattered lives, restoring dignity and providing first class care to ex-Service men and women both young and old have been the cornerstones on which Erskine has built an unrivalled reputation.

The Tin Man From the Wizard of Oz

When a man’s an empty kettle he should be on his mettle,
And yet I’m torn apart.
Just because I’m presumin’ that I could be kind-a-human,
If I only had heart.
I’d be tender – I’d be gentle and awful sentimental
Regarding Love and Art.
I’d be friends with the sparrows … and the boys who shoots the arrows
If I only had a heart…

I’ve been featured in a Wizard of Oz themed collection over on Artfire today.

To celebrate, I’m offering a 20% discount (that’s a saving of up to £20 ($32)) coupon on all my Red Murano Hearts until Midnight on Sunday.
